| Discover La Reunion
This is the southern part of Reunion. The northern part is a separate file. You must have both to experience Reunion in all its glory!
Reunion Ortho
Ortho for Reunion in LZ18. I used images from Arcgisonline. Reunion South contains two folders that need to be downloaded. After downloading, both files must be in a common folder.
Both files require a new file extension after downloading.
Important!
The zOrtho4XP_-22+055 Reunion south jpg 001.7z file must be in
zOrtho4XP_-22+055 Reunion south jpg 001.7z.001
and the file zOrtho4XP_-22+055 Reunion south jpg 002.7z in
zOrtho4XP_-22+055 Reunion south jpg 002.7z.002
be renamed.
The files can then be unpacked, .001 first!
When file 1 is unpacked, the second file is also unpacked. A folder "zOrtho4XP_-22+055 Reunion south" should then be available. Size 3.5GB.
This is not to be moved directly into the scenery file!
The texture data is only available here as a JPG. This is due to the size of this ortho.
The .jpg are to be converted into .dds
Under Windows there are programs that enable batch processing.
Such a program could be found here, for example.
Under Linux, this is best done in the console. Open the textures folder in the terminal.
ls *.jpg | xargs -I TEX basename TEX .jpg | xargs --max-procs=4 -I TEX2 convert TEX2.jpg TEX2.dds
-max-procs=4 specifies the number of CPU cores, this can be increased or decreased.
The conversion takes some time. Don't be afraid to wait and drink tea.
The .jpg can then be deleted as they are no longer required. The .png files must not be deleted!
For Linux with rm *.jpg*
The folder containing the converted "textures" will be 10.4 GB including .jpg. After deleting the .jpg, the folder "zOrtho4XP_-22+055 Reunion south" is 6.9 GB in size. Now it belongs in the Custom Scenery folder. Adjust scenery_packs.ini and fly over Reunion.
I strongly recommend using Sim Heaven!
I hope I was able to describe the process in such a way that it is understandable.
To see Reunion in all its glory, the Reunion north part is also required. There is no conversion here, since the texture data is available as .dds.
