Southwest - Desert Gold Retro | 737-MAX8 (Max Team Design)

A paint scheme dedicated to Southwest's co-founder and former CEO Herbert David Kelleher. This Desert Gold retro livery was originally on Southwest's Boeing 737-7H4 as N711HK before that plane retired due to its age. This livery was later revived on Southwest's newer Boeing 737-MAX8 as N871HK.

FAQ #1 - Where do I go to download the 737-MAX8?

X-Plane 11
The link to the 737-MAX8 MOD is found through the following google drive link: (Click here)
Refer to FAQ #2 for installation instructions, if needed.
Please note that the official 737-MAX8 only works on X-Plane 11.

X-Plane 12
The link for the 737-MAX8 for XP12 is found from this following channel:

PLEASE note that this is not the official 737-MAX8 v6 release. I do not plan to do a compatibility update for my MAX8 liveries for XP12 at this time.

FAQ #2 - How do I install the 737-MAX8?

Please note that the official 737-MAX8 only works on X-Plane 11.
(As of September 11, 2023)
WINDOWS USERS - XP11
1) Download Zibo v3.49 FULL (click here) and Zibo v3.49.16 FIX (click here) to have Zibo v3.49.16 as the base.
  - Delete the entire "liveries" folder that are full of Zibo liveries.
  - Rename the aircraft's folder to "Boeing 737-MAX8".
2) Download MAX8 MOD v5.1 and MAX8 MOD v5.1.1 FIX (click here). 
  - Place the "Zibo Files Cleanup Tool" .bat file into the MAX8 aircraft folder. Run the .bat file.
  - Extract MAX8 MOD v5.1 contents into the MAX8 aircraft folder. Overwrite as prompted.
  - Extract MAX8 MOD v5.1.1 FIX contents into the MAX8 aircraft folder. Overwrite as prompted.

FAQ #3 - What is that annoying split on top of the fuselage and engine cowling?

That would be my poor attempt in trying to incorporate the reflections in order to give the livery a more golden look. However, that lead to the formation of that split you see on top of the fuselage and engine cowling.
Do inform me of any free program that allows me to modify the different channels of NML files.

If you'd like to get rid of the annoying split on the fuselage, go into the livery's objects folder and delete the following files:
- 738fuselage_NML.png
- B38Mcfmleap_NML.png
   - Note: If you have downloaded my Canyon Blue Retro and/or Heart liveries for the MAX8, go into its objects folder, copy and paste the B38Mcfmleap_NML.png file into the Desert Gold Retro livery's objects folder.

If you'd like to be consistent by getting rid of the reflections on the tail, SATCOM and winglets, delete the following files from the Desert Gold Retro livery's objects folder:
- 738tail_NML.png
- B38Mwinglets_NML

FAQ #4 - Why do some of the textures not show up as advertised?

(As of September 30, 2023)
There are certain textures and decals that may not show up because you either may be using the non-official 737-MAX8 for XP12, you may not have the correct MAX8 version installed, or you may have some configurations not set correctly. 

Check for the following: 
For X-Plane 11...
1. Ensure v5.1.1 is installed for the MAX8.
    - All texture files of this livery are based on that one and only version.
    - See FAQ #2 for installation instructions.
2. Ensure the aircraft's HUD option is enabled over the infotainment option.
    - Hides the infotainment screen.
    - Follows real-world airline configuration.
3. Ensure the aircraft's seat configuration is to "175", in the 4th page of the payload tab.
    - Follows real-world airline configuration.
